Urbanus proteus

One of several species of skippers with long tails to be found in south Texas, this one is the only species commonly called the "long-tailed skipper." Melanie and I were very excited to see our first of these skippers with long tails on an earlier trip to the Lower Rio Grande Valley, and were lucky enough to be in the area while several different species of these interesting skippers were on the wing.
