This is what use to be our IGA grocery store. I have live here for going on 47 years. This store was here well before I moved here. Last year it locked its doors. We were devastated!
I feel that Walmart drove them out.It is a 25 minute drive for us to get to the Walmart store. It was a 3 minute drive to get to our IGA.

Very well documented. I like the reflection. It’s sad to see what the chains have done to this country. V

A story so often repeated these days ... same stories here in Canada

A great capture to tell your story so well, Jim...V

It's such a shame the local stores are all gone, taken over by the big conglomerates. You show this reality so well here, Jim. V

A superb presentation to illustrate your words. V.

A similar sad situation applies in rural towns Down-Under. When such businesses close the former employees move with their children, so small rural schools become no longer viable. Likewise eventually the bank, police station and so on.

What a sad state of affairs, but that seems to be happening more and more. And what a bother to have to drive 25 minutes to Walmart.

An empty parking lot, an empty building - says so much about what's happening in small towns...meanwhile 1,000 people a week move to the Seattle area...

PS. I like your depiction of what remains. It tells the story well.

I assume you live in a semi- rural area and this seems to happen more and more there.
A bit of local initiative is lost.

Interesting series and accounts Jim. Walmart, Costco, Home Depot etc have done a number on many of our independent retailers too. Sad to see them succum.

Such a shame when a small town starts bleeding stores, both literally and figuratively as shown here by the vacant structure and reflection in the parking lot respectively.

That is really terrible Jim...not just the driving. In BC and Alberta the IGA “brand” grocery has changed hands to stay alive ~ Walmart here luckily hasn’t grabbed all the business....yet.

always a pity when a favourite store disappears from the scene...love how the red of the facade reflects in the puddle..

That is really sad. It seems to be the way the world is going now, as there are similar situations here too. Not good.

This is really too bad, and you have drive so far. Here Walmart took over probably one of the last Montgomery Ward stores in our area. We're one of many who boycott Walmart. Instead we buy at two independent privately owned supermarkets.
