A campus activist group at Vancouver Island University, are attempting to force the Nanaimo Empire Days Society
to change the name and focus of Nanaimo’s annual Empire Days festivities.

The group aims to end Nanaimo’s 140+ year tradition of celebrating empire and this will be the fourth consecutive year of protests at the Empire Days Parade. This young woman was passing out leaflets in support of their cause.

Fortunately the Society is holding fast and the Empire Days name will be retained.
