The problem here is camera shake. You must use a tripod with your camera if the shutter speed is less than 1/15th of a second, unless you are using a lens that has image stabilization built in to it. Macro images such as this are prone to blur due to camera shake. You must use a faster shutter speed, and you must not push the shutter button, but rather gently apply pressure to it without moving the finger.
Phil, I sharpened this in Photoshop as much as possible without going too overboard. Data on original - 1/10s f 5.6 @ 55mm iso 100. I think I'll just chalk this one up to 'learning experience'.
