One of the highlights of trekking in El Parque Nacional Las Torres del Paine is seeing the large granite structures (las Torres) at sunrise. There is only a 20 minute window when they are lit up, assuming the clouds don't obscure the view, which they often do. Trekking up to the lookout requires waking at 3:30am and hiking a very steep incline for about an hour in the dark. The morning my friend and I went, there were only about 6 other people who made the hike. A search on PBase for "Torres del Paine" reveals many shots taken in normal daylight hours. However, there are very few of Las Torres at sunrise. I guess we were among the few who were crazy enough to actually get up that early and make it. They're truly amazing to see.
