Kimberly Studio

My very first use of studio lights! Please leave comments on how I can improve and which ones you might like.

This is my 10 yr. old daughter, Kimberly. She found some hats at the camera club studio that she really wanted to try. We were just having fun and doing some silly stuff as well as trying some more formal poses. She also has a dalmation collectin we took with us for a "family portrait"

This is a very good start if it is the first time you have used studio lighting. Some of the lighting appears a little flat and you need to experiment with the ratio between main light and fill in. Soft boxes are the best to use, in my opinion. Keep them close to the subject, pulling them too far away can cause harsh results, especially on the subject you have here. I have a couple of tutorials for portrait lighting here.http://www.thestudio-online.co.uk/tutorials_index One for high key and another for low key, both use only 2 lights. Keep up the good work.

Hi again, I forgot to mention that no one helped me with the lights, other than to show me at one club meeting how to sync them with my camera. We schedule the studio, and we were there alone. I've done a lot of reading, and of course learning as much as I can on dpc - but hands on is the way to go. I was getting frustrated with the lighter background. Lighter appears to be more of a challenge. Anyway..thanks again. Judy

Judy, Overall these are a very good start. Did you have someone help you with the lighting or did you configure the lights by yourself? I see the use of some lights and that shows some understanding. I like the use of hairlights and what appears to be some softboxes moved away from the camera a little bit. I left one or two comments on a couple of photos but I think this is a wonderful start. The images seem to not have any editing or sharpening to them; then again, that may well be the resolution you chose to save them at for PBase. Thanks for sharing, Kev
