All of our elementary school buildings will be obsolete within a few years, as we are building all new schools. I decided that I would go around and take photos of each of the exsisting schools before they get closed or torn down.
I started with Pierce because the light was right for it today, plus it's my sentimental favorite. It's the elementary I and each of my 3 siblings attended. It's also the school my oldest daughter attended. Located in the Lindenwald neighborhood, I remember chasing a boy around the playground with my umbrella in second grade (I liked him of course...I wonder where Sean is now...) enjoying jumping on the trampoline in gym, singing "Scarlet Ribbons" and "Let There be Peace on Earth" in chorus, and having several teachers my older siblings had, including Mrs. Oiler, Mrs. Eversole, and Mrs. Fiest and the principal Mr. Matthews. I doubt you can see the date over the door....1928!
These schools are in need of being replaced, but I really like the old architecture. When I am finished with all the shots, I hope to put together some sort of collage tribute to these old schools.
