January Week 1
New Year, New Bridge

Hamilton, Ohio

This is the view from the west bank of the Great Miami River, looking into downtown Hamilton. We have put up with the construction of a new bridge for quite some time now...a few years. It's just about complete. They have lit the bottom portion, which looks very nice at night. Unfortunately, this evening when I went for photos, only half of the bridge was lit - I imagine due to some of the ongoing finishing work happening. I hope to get a nice full shot of the bridge when all the contstruction materials are GONE!

Jeff, the new bridge is actually right where the old bridge used to stand. It was demolished and rebuilt one side at a time. I have a few pictures in my other "Hamilton" gallery taken during construction . The stone work you see is - I think - a remnant of the the old Fort Hamilton. Fort Hamilton was an army outpost ordered to be built in 1791 by General St. Clair.

I like the soft light in this photo. It looks as if an older bridge spanned the river in front of the new one, given the stonework to the right of the new bridge.
