Cádiz. Iglesia del Carmen

The construction of this church was completed in 1762. In addition to the artistic importance of the temple, its historical significance refers to the celebration of the solemn Te Deum on March 19, 1812, in thanksgiving for the culmination of the Constitution of Cádiz, which was proclaimed that same afternoon. The church has a Latin cross floor plan with three naves. The main nave is divided into five sections by Tuscan pillars, with steps arranged in a cross pattern. The main façade, one of the most characteristic examples of 17th-century Cádiz Baroque, is divided into three sections. The main section, occupying the pediment, is made of marble and consists of two levels supported by Ionic columns. The side sections are connected by a series of superimposed Tuscan pilasters placed against the wall and crowned by ornately decorated bell towers.
