Jerez de la Frontera. Catedral

Jerez Cathedral dates back to the 18th century and combines gothic, baroque and neoclassical styles.
The Cathedral was built between 1695 and 1778 upon the site of the primitive San Salvador church which, in turn, was built on where the main mosque used to stand during the Moorish occupation of the city.Inside we find the different side-chapels: the chapel of the Souls (las Ánimas), the chapel dedicated to the Cristo de la Viga, that of the Inmaculate Mary and the Sagrario. It has an interesting permanent exhibition, of which the most outstanding piece is ‘La Virgen de niña’ by Zurbarán and paintings by Juan Rodríguez. The Mudéjar bell tower, standing apart from the rest of the building, offers an opportunity to enjoy excellent views of the oldest part of the city.
