Modernist architecture, or Art Nouveau architecture, is an architectural trend that developed between 1890 and 1925, though its main development began around 1905. Art Nouveau ("new art") was the result of a quest to liberate the building's form from the mere imitation of ancient periods (historicism) and to create a new style.Early approaches to 20th-century architecture pointed to a radical and irreversible shift from previous architectural styles, where events from the late 19th century onward were seen as a radical and irreversible change. Thus emerged the idea of a modern movement in architecture that represented a fresh start.
