The Alameda Vieja Gardens stand out as one of the city's main areas, not only for their size but also for their historical significance and location, bordered by the Alcázar, the Cathedral, and the González Byass Winery. Built around the old city walls, over the disused defensive moat (filled in 1787), this unique enclave is characterized as the oldest tree-lined promenade in the city, which has earned it the nickname Alameda Vieja (Old Promenade).
