Founded in 1920, within a historic building, the former butcher's shop built in 1587-1588, the Historical Museum of the City of Strasbourg reopened its doors in 2013, fully renovated.
Showcasing the city's history from the Middle Ages to the creation of European institutions, the museum offers a historical and fun adventure. Drawing on its collections, it explores the past, invites the public to reflect on living conditions throughout the ages, and offers opportunities to interact with the works. The museum's centerpiece is the famous 1727 relief map, commissioned by Louis XV. A visit to the museum alone is worth the detour! More than that, the museum is resolutely civic-minded; it teaches about the people of Strasbourg, deciphers the "markers" and "symbols" of Strasbourg.
