Leuven. Koning Leopold I-straat

Fairly wide, rectilinear street that connects Monseigneur Ladeuzeplein with Bondgenootlaan and is crossed by Bogaardenstraat. It forms part of the whole of the streets that were laid out in a grid in the eastern urban development area between Diestsestraat and Tiensestraat according to the building lines plan approved in 1839 by then city architect FH Laenen. The street was constructed in 1850-1851 and was initially opened to the east for the construction of the Guldenkeystraat: a planned cross street between Bondgenootlaan and Willemsstraat, which had already been partially constructed in 1848 and extended in 1851, but was suppressed in 1855 due to the city architect E. Lavergne made changes to Laenens' building lines plan. With the connection in 1871 to the square-shaped widening on Bondgenootlaan - the "Brabantplein" (1851-1858), which was only partially realized - Leopoldstraat was now connected to Bondgenootlaan and Justus Lipsiusstraat.

Like this architectural style of the building with the red bricks, looks like the 'Edwardian England' architectural style ... V
