The Vlamingstraat originally ran from the Markt to the Beursplein . The second part, which ran from Beursplein to Vlamingbrug, was called Korte Vlamingstraat until the end of the 18th century . The humanist Juan Luis Vives and the painter Adriaen Isenbrant lived in the Korte Vlamingstraat. The name Beursplein disappeared and no longer appeared when official names were given to streets and squares. This immediately meant that the Vlamingstraat took over the 'Korte' Vlamingstraat.
