Bamberg - the Franconian Rome
Like Rome, the city of Bamberg is built on seven hills. Bamberg's history began on one of them with the castle of the "elder Babenberger", which can be traced back to around 930 and gave the place its name. The castle came into the possession of the Bavarian Duke Heinrich the Brawler in 973. His son, Emperor Heinrich II (the saint), became the actual founder of Bamberg, in which he created a bishopric of Bamberg in 1007.
