The people of Erfurt owe this beautiful fountain to a competition held in 1880. This competition was announced in order to commemorate the successful completion of the construction of the city's central water supply system. The then 38-year-old Berlin architect and craftsman Heinrich Stöckhardt (1842-1920) won it.Two oversized figures, personifying two traditional local trades, adorn the Erfurt Angerbrunnen on the left and right. A male figure between attributes such as hammer and vice symbolizes the machine and weapon industry as well as handicrafts and applied arts.
