Pont de Pedra (Stone Bridge)
The so-called Pont de Pedra , is the only one built with this material in Girona. It was built during the reign of Elizabeth II , which is why it is also known by this name. The construction of this bridge represented the collapse of a previous one, from medieval times, called Pont de Sant Francesc or Pont de Framenors . For a time, under the eyes of the bridge and the place where Plaza Catalunya is currently located , was the Areny , a place where the cattle market was held at the beginning of the 20th century. The construction of the current bridge began in 1850, after moving the market to Palanca d'en Vila, according to a project by the engineer Constantino Germán whose works were directed by the engineer Víctor Martí .
