Internationally known today, Lloret de Mar began to receive its first foreign visitors around 1950. But these were not its first tourists: since the twenties (and even before), our city had welcomed during the summers to select families of Barcelona society and its surroundings, who were looking for a pleasant atmosphere on the beaches of Lloret. Josep Carner, one of the great poets of Catalonia, already christened our town with the name "gentile paradise" in 1919, in the magazine D'Ací i d'Allŕ.
It should be remembered that the name of Lloret was already known at the time thanks to the famous Marina aria, which in those days was a zarzuela and which literally says "Costas la de Llevant, platges la de Lloret", released on September 21, 1855 in the Madrid Circus Theater. This lucky fragment written by the poet Francesc Camprodon became the first advertising slogan of Lloret de Mar
