Zermatt's Bahnhofstrasse is the winding main shopping street of the Matterhorn village, which is about 600 meters long. It runs across the center of Zermatt and connects the station with the marketplace and the village church. Many of Zermatt's big and good hotels are located on the Bahnhofsstrasse, as well as restaurants, cafes, clubs and bars. Even international chain stores, souvenir shops and luxury stores have settled here on the pulsating main artery of Zermatt and invite you to relaxed strolling and shopping. Even the inevitable McDonald's branch, which has meanwhile also found its way into Zermatt and Bahnhofstrasse, takes account of the Zermatt architecture and presents itself on the Bahnhofstrasse with lots of wood and discreet design, thus blending into the harmonious mix of hotels, elegant shops and old village houses. If you are looking for the traditional center of Zermatt, you should roam the small, winding side streets of Bahnhofstrasse, which are even more original with their charming old Walser houses.
