The monastery in Engelberg impressed with his buildings throughout the town. Already in 1120 it was founded by Konrad Sellenbüren and subsequently attracted monks from the monastery of Muri added. This managed and expanded the facilities with much success. A devastating fire in the monastery destroyed the monastery, however, and was rebuilt in its present form. The monastery is one of the greatest Baroque areas in Central Switzerland.
