The Church of St. Peter and Paul towers above the eastern end of Brandenburger Straße. The most conspicuous distinguishing mark of the yellow brick building is the Italian-style campanile with a height of almost 60 meters. Built in the period from 1867 to 1870 with Byzantine and Roman stylistic elements, this was the first Catholic church in Potsdam. In its interior, three paintings by Antoine Pesne are on display. Pesne was one of the greatest artists of the Baroque and Rococo styles, as evident by the tall altar painting "Christ's Fear of Death" and the two paintings for the side altars which show the handing-over of the rosary and the guardian angel. The model upon which this church is based can be found in Italy.
