The Church of San Bartolomé is one of four churches located within Logroño's old town.
Historians believe that the tower was used as an integral part of the city's defence line, dedicated to protecting one of the gates to the city.
Construction of the Church of San Bartolomé began in the thirteenth century. The monumental frontal facade, which spectacularly decorates the main church door, soon followed.
The gothic doorway is bordered by six archivolts with mouldings below each.
Above the doorway is a tympanium, hosting the figures of Christ the Redeemer along with the Virgin of San Juan.
The church is dedicated to the Apostle Bartholomew and Mudejar influences can clearly be seen in the masonry.
