The best starting point in the Engadin is Scuol (Schuls in German), a romantic and pretty spa town nestling down in the valley below, whose attractions include an 11th-century castle and a picturesque old quarter, featuring cobbled alleys, bubbling fountains and old bakery ovens. The local museum gives an insight into Romansch culture. Scuol’s mineral water, known as the “champagne of the Alps”, can be drunk from the village fountain or soaked in at the thermal baths.
