In the old town above the harbour wander through the narrow cobbled streets flanked by old houses with intricately carved wooden balconies. The buildings are a real delight. Find the lovely sunny squares and stop and pass some time in one of the street cafés.
The huge church of Santa Maria de la Asuncion is built in the gothic style.
Hondarribia's 10th century castle, the Palacio de Carlos Quinto, is now a fabulous looking parador, dominates the top of the old town. Sneak a look into its entrance lobby if you are not lucky enough to actually be staying here.
The old town is surrounded by a 15th century wall and is entered through the Puerta de Santa Maria gateway which looks like a tiny castle.
