The Gate of Executions
At the 10th Pavilion of the Citadel there was the central arrest for political prisoners and during the years of annexation of Poland, approximately fourty thousand prisoners were held there.
They were the patriots fighting for nation's liberty and social changes. A few hundred of them were executed on the Citadel slopes, thousands of them were carried out to labour camps or to the Siberian exile.
It is an important place for the nation's memory, a symbol of Polish martyrdom in the time of annexation.
