The relief of equestrian victory of king Hormizd II over the regional enemy (c. 303-309) is located
below the tomb attributed to Artaxerses I.
Hormizd II is recognizable by his crown shaped as an eagle carrying a pearl in its beak. He is represented on horseback, charging at full gallop and unhorsing with a long lance an enemy wearing a plumed helmet. Behind the king his standard bearer carries a banner.
Hormizd II was the eighth king of the Sasanian Empire, and reigned for seven years and five months, from 302 to 309. He was the son and successor of Narseh.
