70 years ago, the German concentration camp in Auschwitz, Poland was liberated by the Soviet Red Army.
More than one million people, mostly Jews, were murdered between 1940 and 1945. It was the Nazi regime’s largest death camp.
Today, some 300 Auschwitz survivors returned for the ceremony under a giant tent, along with several world leaders, to remember those who lost their lives in this site of the largest mass execution of human beings ever recorded.
