Shah Abbasi Caravanserai

Meybod / ميبد‎, Iran

The Silk Road, an important and extensive trans-continental network of routes, once was dotted with thousands of caravanserai, staging posts for the weary travellers.
The ancient caravanserai is a rectangular building with a walled exterior and a courtyard open to the sky. It had a single door, wide enough to permit large animals like camels to gain access together with people.
The caravanserai in Meybod has been restored and made into the nice carpet museum and a modern Shahabbasi Caravansary Restaurant.

great compo. NB, despite spending nearly three weeks in Iran this year, the first time I see graffiti on the walls is here, on your picture. Only now I realised this...

Very interesting building with those unusual domes, and nicely captured from this POV. V.
