Water Museum

Yazd/ یزد‎ , Iran

The Yazd Water Museum was opened in 2000 inside a 19th century house, and it features exhibits of water storage vessels and historical technologies related to water. The exhibition is very interesting.

Qanat (Kariz) system is an ancient Persian system to bring water from far away to the middle of the desert.
It is a series of well-like vertical shafts, connected by gently sloping tunnels. Qanāts create a reliable supply of water for human settlements and irrigation in hot, arid, and semi-arid climates.
The qanat technology is known to have been developed by the Persian people some2500 years ago and spread from there slowly to China, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Arabian Peninsula, Spain and many African countries.
The Spanish introduced qanats also into Mexico in 1520 AD.
