Hutsul Pysanky

Pysanka is an egg (natural or wooden) decorated for Easter.
Traditional wooden Hutsul Pysanka Eggs from the Carpathian Mountains in Western Ukraine have their own color themes and motifs.
They are hand turned and painted by folk artisans.
They are well known for their geometric ornamentations and yellow cross-hatching.
The egg is divided into straight lines, squares, triangles, and along with other shapes to give it its tradition look.
They traditionally utilize white, yellow, red, black and green dyes, with occasional blue highlights.
Their strong and rich colors, color range, and combinations correspond to the ornamentation of the Hutsul wood carvings, metal art objects, and embroidery.
