Moss In The City Park

New Orleans, Louisiana

This well known element of the southern landscape hangs from bows and limbs of trees throughout the U.S. South. Called the Spanish moss it is not a true moss. Belonging to the plant family Bromeliacae, it is more closely related to the pineapple than to peat.

Love the Spanish Moss! I know it seems crazy but to see the Live Oaks draped in this stuff is the only reason I hope to travel to the American South sometime soon. It looks like you had a good time!

And, also, like the pineapple, the symbol of southern hospitality.
