Macroglossum stellatarum

Horyniec, Poland

The Hummingbird Hawk-moth

This was the second time I saw this day moth and the first one I managed to make a photo. It is very fast moving from flower to flower and hard to shoot.
It is a resident only in warmer climates, but due to the climate warming lately, this South Europe species migrate to Poland in summer and can be seen on the flowers with lots of nectar.

Just been browsing this gallery - and very beautiful it is too. These hummingbird moths are lovely, we have two or three that spend their day around the lavender bushes at the moment. Chris

A very artistic presentation.
They can be confused with Hummingbirds from a distance.
Love the composition and the softness of the photograph.
We see them from time to time during the summer months.

Great catch, they are rare visitors here, I don't think we'll have many this summer, it's too wet!
