SIEM REAP

Photography by Jojie Alcantara

Located between rice paddies and flanking the Siem Reap River, the charming provincial capital of Siem Reap now serves as a bustling gateway to the millennium-old temple ruins of the Khmer Empire, Angkor Wat. Being a tourist destination for over 100 years, the fascinating rural delight that is Siem Reap has a lot to offer the senses, from low end to high end accommodation, amazing finds at the Old Market, a healthy nightlife and burst of local colors from food to art appreciation. Angkor Wat, though, remains to be the major attraction, a breathtaking vista of ancient Khmer civilization preserved for centuries and swallowed by a rich forest of giant trees. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, being in the midst of these architectural masterpieces is indescribable. It is one of my dream destinations granted.
