Looking like a toy in a bathtub the QE2 starts heading back down the sound to the open sea. It later transpired that the pilot on this vessel was to became a work colleague of mine when I started in my current job. Now sadly passed away and often mentioned at my place of work he is a fondly remembered character by the name of Iain Maxwell and then employed by the port of Bluff which provides the pilotage for cruise ships that visit the sounds. He was known for his somewhat aggressive and flamboyant style of shiphandling and it has been suggested that if we ever see a cloud scudding across the harbour faster than the rest then that will be him.
