I've posted this comment or something similar before but here goes:
Many places round here end in 'hope'.
The origin is Anglo-Saxon meaning side valley and is pronounced 'up'.
Such as
Rookhope - Rookup
Stanhope - Stannup
Middlehope - Midlup
Burnhope - Burnup
Bollihope - Bollyup
and my favourite Shittlehope - Shitlup
