More April

Oh, to be in England
Now that April's there,
And whoever wakes in England
Sees, some morning, unaware,
That the lowest boughs and the brushwood sheaf
Round the elm-tree bole are in tiny leaf,
While the chaffinch sings on the orchard bough
In England—now!

And after April, when May follows,
And the whitethroat builds, and all the swallows!
Hark, where my blossomed pear-tree in the hedge
Leans to the field and scatters on the clover
Blossoms and dewdrops—at the bent spray's edge—
That's the wise thrush; he sings each song twice over,
Lest you should think he never could recapture
The first fine careless rapture!
And though the fields look rough with hoary dew,
All will be gay when noontide wakes anew
The buttercups, the little children's dower
—Far brighter than this gaudy melon-flower!

I love the sun on the fields contrasting with the gloomy sky and rain on the horizon. Great work! V

That could be around here; at the moment thunder is rolling round, the sun is piercingly bright and the clouds are seriously black.

love the rolling landscape, the dotted sheep and the brooding sky over the sunny green fields, super light. Is that rain on yonder hill?
Sheila29-Apr-2012 00:20
Oh to be in England, indeed.
Your image certainly enhances the desire.

Doesn't look as though summer has quite made it yet. Beautiful tones and ambience. Well done.

I've always liked this poem...
and I love the photo too...
It's so...

April, April,
Laugh thy golden laughter,
But, the moment after,
Weep thy golden tears!

Thanks for all the poetry, Johnny, lyrical and visual.

That is a super image,John. Wonderful capture of that dramatic sky and the lights crossing the fields.Perhaps tomorrow will be blue skies and puffy white clouds (complete with flying pig) !!!

Oh John, I’m in love with this photo, such a dark and magic sky enhance by the sunlight going through the clouds and the little white dots…sheep for sure.
It’s idyllic. A great composition indeed.
