Blow, blow, thou winter wind

Freeze, freeze, thou bitter sky,
That dost not bite so nigh
As benefits forgot:
Though thou the waters warp,
Thy sting is not so sharp
As friend remembered not.

William Shakespeare

I'm not surprised WS felt the bite so nigh...he wore tights and bloomers ;0)

That looks so bleedin cold, the perspiration on my brow just turned to ice!!

When I saw the thumbnail, I thought 'Wuthering Heights'...and the verse is perfect for that tale as well. A superb reflection of these bitter days.
:-)

I think you should be quoting Dickens "Bleak House" for this picture, but I bet the views are great on a sunny day.

monochromatic tones of green gray with a spareness and lonesomeness suitable to a wintry day, so perfect for reflection and poetry reading. Shakespeare is just right.
globalgadabout12-Feb-2012 02:22
just noted that this one is even more fabulous in 'original'
globalgadabout12-Feb-2012 02:19
this looks a nadir John, and a resonant one too...not to mention dank and humid...trust you managed to warm up later...V

It was bitterly cold here today too, but the sun did shine. The mood in this scene perfectly matches the poem.

This could be another world to where I am ...... Looks so cold and dank!
tinkerb11-Feb-2012 23:28
That looks cold and driech. Is this the same building that had the back roof blown off?
Kevin Chester11-Feb-2012 22:46
Mr wind had an extra bite tonight. This is the Weardale I know ;-)
Sheila11-Feb-2012 22:07

Perfect poem to accompany the image.

Nasty, nasty day. Cold and damp rips through you on such days. The bleak landscape and the color stealing fog really fits with your selection from Shakespeare. Very nice Johnny.

With the words bitter, cold, freeze, bite, sting, Will's grasp on the vocabulary of cold weather matches your image very well.
Colin Storey11-Feb-2012 21:15
What a lovely poem for such a cold and frosty day.
Mairéad11-Feb-2012 21:08
It certainly looks cold with the freezing fog and remnants of snow.

There no doubting the season, same can't be said for my understanding of Shakespeare :0)
