Just west of this locale, an impressively-expensive-looking resort is in the works (phase one of three complete): Gateway Canyons, the brainchild of Discovery Channel founder John Hendricks. Out in the middle of seeming nowhere is a place that appears to be reaching for Palm Springs ambiance; the antique auto museum is complete and open, as is a portion of the lodging and outfitter facility (including grocery store and gas station). Weird.
