Place/Haworth raced for the Wharfedale club and became FAI Team Race World Champions in 1964 in Budapest flying their Super Nova high aspect ratio model with a modified ETA 15 Mk II. The Aero Modeller cutting shows that they placed 3rd at Cranfield in 1959 behind Allen/Cooper.

John Lichnerowicz, the custodian of this web site tells me that for many years there was a small shop in Bancroft, Milton Keynes - just down from the Concrete Cows, which was run by Dick Place's wife. John found this out by chance one afternoon when he walked into the shop and found Dick behind the counter standing in for his wife and confesses he was struck dumb by coming face to face with one of his heroes!
