Stephen with BSA

This is the bike Hidden behind the Harley in the Old Warden Control Tower Picture. The Shuttleworth Collection has a similar model in its bike collection. This is a plunger framed 650cc A10 and despite its age it goes well now that the engine has been properly rebuilt by SRM.

The rebuild was needed because soon after buying the bike the engine self-destructed owing to a lack of oil. This was known to be a weak point but we believe that it was compounded by the fitting of a non return valve in the pipes between oil tank and engine. Certainly the advice of both SRM and a specialist rebuilder in Arlesey is that such devices should not be used.

The SRM re-build includes a new oil feed system and a revised sump plate with sump plug making it easy to drop the oil into a clean container and to refill the oil tank should it end up in the bottom of the engine rather than the tank.

The bike is a joy to ride now and has covered over 350 miles since we got it back on the road at the beginning of December (excuse the date - it is wrong owing to finger trouble when resetting the Lumix FZ20 camera). And the bike doesn't leave oil stains on the garage floor thanks to Jeff and his team at SRM
