John Oliver's water diesel carb 1960

My father worked at Lang Construction Co he told me about a test oil fired heating system - once it was up to temperature they introduced water with the oil so it saved on oil. I immediately thought of a racing application; I wanted to use a Oliver for the test so I wrote to John Oliver outlining my idea and by return of post John sent a carb with water and diesel spraybars fitted.

On test the water gave us 400/600 rpm increase (static). At that time we had no way of making valves to turn the water on after takeoff and off before engine shut down to prevent water flooding the engine. The water would be carried in a separate tank but would be considered part of the fuel load it would have been difficult for the judges to measure the fuel and water tanks as we are only allowed a total 7cc fuel capacity.

other sizes: small medium large original auto
