1965 The Year of the Silencers

All things considered 1964 worked out quite well with five finals on the bounce.

The next problem looming up would be silencers for 1965. Ken Bedford spent £1000 on the dies but I don't know how he arrived at the design. In flight they would sometimes shake loose plus there was the added complication of tailoring the model to accommodate them - not to mention the added weight and drag. All very time consuming when you wanted to whip the engine out.

When I think about all the problems the silencer rule caused it was a complete waste of time and money. We were never decibel checked. In fact one team used a megaphone system and it made even more noise than standard. I suggested continuing with the 2.60 eta for B racing but Ken felt we had enough to do developing the Eta 15.

We only managed seventh at the Nationals and I wish we had entered the over size diesel in Class B.
