Old New Orleans

New Orleans was founded in 1718 by the French Mississippi Company on land inhabited by the Chitimacha, but it was not a part of the United States until April 30, 1812, when Louisiana became the 18th state in the Union. (As far as I can determine, all these photos are in the public domain as they were all taken before 1923.)
