The Pines, Fire Island

Fire Island is a long thin barrier island with high dunes, wide beaches, centuries-old forests and plentiful wildlife. It is New York State's only federally designated wilderness. There are no roads, only boardwalks and forest trails. The Pines is located to the east of Cherry Grove and is separated from the Grove by a small stretch of undeveloped beach and dune known affectionately as the "Judy Garland Memorial Woods."
