This one reminded me of that children's story where a farmer, left to look after the house while wife
goes to market, puts the cow to graze on the turfed roof while he minds the baby. So that the cow
doesn't stray he drops its tether down the chimney, goes back into the house and ties the loose end
round his ankle.

The cow, of course, falls off the roof...
