On the left, the fortress of Colliure - an imposing edifice built to defend the town against seaborne
invaders who were as nothing in comparison with the latter-day barbaric hordes who sweep down on the
place every summer from the 27 unholy armpits of Europe, honking in uncouth tongues, clogging the
sewage system with nasty foreign rubber things and breaking beer bottles on the cycle tracks.
The tower left of centre was reputedly built by the Comtesse Impedimenta Vilissime to humiliate her
husband, Flaccide de Tristecouille.
