Steam Power, but No Abacus in Sight

Also observed at the Brooks "Steam-Up" was this steam powered ice cream machine. I forgot to enquire where the abacus exhibit was.

Oregon state law prohibits the public display of steam-powered abaci, for the same reason that motorists may not pump their own gas. Owners of such rare devices transport them to Notner (in a more progressive state) for display on the first weekend in August. It's my understanding that the organizers of the Brooks "steam-up" did allow a modest display of 163 wind-powered, water-powered, and solar-powered abacuses in a corner of the grounds---too bad you missed it.
