We had a great trip to visit Capital Prize Gold Mines in Georgetown, Colorado, which is west into the mountains from Denver. It was founded in 1859 along Clear Creek at the beginning of the gold rush. It is a tourist attraction now, but they still mine some gold and demonstrate how to recover it from the rock.
