We went to Houston Camera Exchange today to start the search for a new camera(s). It turned out to be a very instructional endeavor which completely changed our quest. They showed us a Canon EOS R100 which is a mirrorless camera. I was stunned by how light it was. We also tried out the RF 100-400 lens which is also compact and light. The combination totals 1.2 kg. Our SX70 HS weighs in at 574 grams. Anyway we had a long chat with the guy there and learned a lot about mirrorless cameras. I think these are the future for our trip to Africa.
When I got back home I got to thinking about when I got my first digital camera, a Ricoh RDC 300. Turns out it was in January of 1997. We have been through lots of cameras since then. It was a whopping 640X480 pixels which is 0.3 megapixels. I had a heck of a lot of fun with it. Here is a photo of it. It was a pretty dodgy configuration.
